The Abbazia di Praglia (founded 1080, rebuilt 15th-16th century) is a working Benedictine monastery in the Euganean Hills, 15 minutes from Padova. The monks are famous for two things: their book and manuscript restoration laboratory (one of the most important in Italy — they restore damaged books from libraries across the country, using traditional and scientific methods), and their herbal products (cosmetics, teas, honey, liqueurs made from herbs grown in the monastery garden). The architecture is Renaissance Veneto: four cloisters (the Chiostro Botanico with the herbal garden, the Chiostro Pensile — a hanging garden cloister), a refectory with Giovanni Battista Zelotti frescoes, and a church with a Zelotti-frescoed ceiling. The Euganean Hills: The abbey sits in the volcanic hills south of Padova — a landscape of vineyards, hot springs, and hilltop villas.
