Camogli is what happens when a Ligurian fishing village stays a fishing village. Take the boat (Golfo Paradiso ferries, €8-12, 30 min) to San Fruttuoso — a 10th-century Benedictine abbey on a cove accessible ONLY by boat or hiking trail. The Christ of the Abyss (Cristo degli Abissi) — a bronze statue submerged 15m underwater in the bay (visible by snorkeling on calm days). Hike to Portofino (2.5h trail through the Portofino Regional Park — Mediterranean maquis, cliff views, wild coves). OR take the boat to Portofino (€8, 20 min).
Sagra del Pesce (2nd Sunday of May). The most famous food festival in Liguria — a 4m-diameter frying pan on the harbor cooks 2,000kg of fish. Free fried fish for everyone. 10,000+ attendees. Book accommodation months ahead.
Focaccia di Recco (NOT from Camogli — from nearby Recco, 10 min train. But the best version in the world: paper-thin, cheese-filled, melting). Revelli (Via Garibaldi 183, Camogli — the iconic bakery, focaccia €3-5). Pesto (Ligurian pesto is born in this coast — basil, pine nuts, garlic, pecorino + Parmigiano, oil). Fritto misto (mixed fried seafood — the harbor restaurants do this perfectly). Where: Vento Ariel (Via Schiaffino 1 — harbor terrace, fish, €25-35).
Train: Genova→Camogli 30 min (€3). Day trip from Genova: perfect. Combine: Camogli (morning) → boat to San Fruttuoso (lunch at the abbey bar) → boat to Portofino (afternoon aperitivo) → train back from Santa Margherita. The golden Riviera triangle.
