How to avoid fake truffle: If the menu says "crema/olio al tartufo" = truffle CREAM/OIL = NOT real truffle. Real truffle is shaved FRESH at the table from a whole truffle — you see it, smell it, the entire room knows. If you don't see the truffle: you're eating flavoring.
