1. Mercato Testaccio (Piazza Testaccio): Rome's BEST food market. Covered hall (opened 2012). 100+ stalls — butchers, fish, produce, street food. Mordi & Vai (bollito sandwich — Rome's best). Donna Elena (fried supplì). Mon-Sat 7am-3pm. 2. Mercato Trionfale (Via Andrea Doria, near Vatican): Rome's LARGEST market — 270 stalls. Where the Vatican neighborhood shops. Fish, meat, spices, everything. Mon-Sat 7am-2pm. 3. Campo de' Fiori: The FAMOUS one — tourist-heavy but still functioning. Produce, spices, pasta. Mon-Sat 7am-2pm. Expensive for produce but the spectacle is real.
4. Mercato Nuovo Esquilino (Via Principe Amedeo): Rome's most MULTICULTURAL market — Indian spices, Chinese vegetables, African ingredients, halal meat, plus Italian stalls. The cheapest food market in the center. 5. Mercato di Porta Portese (Sunday mornings): NOT a food market — Rome's legendary FLEA MARKET. 1,000+ stalls stretching 1km. Antiques, vintage clothes, vinyl, books, fake designer bags, random treasures. Sunday 6am-2pm. Go early (8am) for the best finds. Watch your wallet.
6. Mercato di Via Sannio (near San Giovanni): Clothing + vintage market. New + used. Mon-Sat. 7. Mercato Pigneto (Via del Pigneto): Hip neighborhood market — organic produce, craft food. 8. Mercato Flaminio (Piazza Ponte Milvio): Northern Rome's best — fish market Friday is legendary. 9. Mercato di San Cosimato (Trastevere): Trastevere's real market — residents shopping among the tourist trattorias. Mon-Sat 7am-1:30pm. 10. Mercato Metronio (Via Magna Grecia): San Giovanni neighborhood — zero tourists, real Rome.
