Rome has the experience — a Sunday flea market with 1,000 stalls along the Tiber, artisan leather workshops where the craftsman makes your belt while you wait, vintage shops in medieval alleys where a €20 jacket is from the 1960s and more stylish than anything at Zara. The rule: don't buy near monuments. Don't buy from street vendors. Buy where Romans buy.

Vintage + indie — Monti: The neighborhood for one-of-a-kind finds. Pifebo (Via dei Serpenti 128 — curated vintage), Il Barretto (Via del Boschetto — secondhand designer), Mercato Monti (Via Leonina 46 — indie designer market, weekends, €2 entry). The entire Via del Boschetto is lined with vintage/artisan shops.
Flea market — Porta Portese: Every Sunday 7am-2pm. Europe's most chaotic flea market — 1,000+ stalls stretching 2km from Porta Portese gate along the Tiber. Vintage clothes, antiques, books, vinyl, random electronics, leather, furniture. Arrive at 8am. Bargain HARD (start at 50% of asking). Watch your pockets.
Artisan leather — Trastevere + Via dei Giubbonari: Small workshops where artisans make bags, belts, wallets, sandals while you watch. €30-100 for handmade leather goods.
