Sorrento isn't the destination. Sorrento is the base camp. From this cliff-top town perched 50 meters above the sea, you can reach: Amalfi Coast by ferry (35 min to Positano), Capri by hydrofoil (20 min), Pompeii by Circumvesuviana train (30 min), Naples by train (1h), and Vesuvius by bus (45 min). Hotels cost half of Positano's prices. Restaurants serve honest food at honest prices. The old town has a piazza with a view of Vesuvius that costs nothing to enjoy. Sorrento is where the lemons grow โ lemon groves draped over pergolas, limoncello made in family kitchens (the real stuff, not the neon-yellow airport version), and delizia al limone (lemon cream cake) that makes you understand why a fruit can define a place. Stay here, day-trip everywhere.
