Genova is vertical. The city climbs steep hills from the harbour. So transport goes UP: funiculars, rack railways, and public elevators.
Plan your trip →Metro: 1 line, 8 stations, east–west along the coast. Brin → De Ferrari (centre) → Brignole (station). Funiculars: Zecca–Righi (panoramic, takes you to the hilltop forts). Sant’Anna. Rack railway: Principe–Granarolo (steep, views). Public elevators: Castelletto lift from Piazza Portello to the Belvedere (free, 1909, Art Nouveau). Buses: extensive network.
€2 single (100 min). 24h: €5.50. Covers all: metro, bus, funicular, rack railway, elevators. Buy at AMT machines, tabacchi.
Ride the Zecca–Righi funicular to the hilltop forts for the best panorama. Take the Castelletto elevator at sunset. The metro is useful but the vertical transport IS the sightseeing.
