Palazzo dei Consoli (1332, Piazza Grande — the most commanding medieval palazzo in Umbria. Houses the Eugubine Tablets — 7 bronze tablets in Umbrian language, 3rd-1st c. The most visceral festival in Italy. 3 teams (Sant'Ubaldo, San Giorgio, Sant'Antonio) each carry a cero (wooden pillar + saint statue, 400kg total) from Piazza Grande to the Basilica on the mountain summit — a 4km uphill sprint through medieval streets. The race is NOT competitive (Sant'Ubaldo always "wins" — it's tradition). The point is the RUNNING — thousands of people screaming, the teams sprinting with 400kg on their shoulders, the streets too narrow for the ceri (they bounce off walls), the adrenaline.
