Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868) โ the composer of The Barber of Seville, William Tell, and 37 other operas โ was born in Pesaro, and the city celebrates him every August with the Rossini Opera Festival (ROF), one of the most prestigious opera festivals in the world. Pesaro was named Italian Capital of Culture 2024, which brought investment, exhibitions, and renewed attention to a city that already had the Palazzo Ducale (Sforza, 15th century), the Musei Civici (Giovanni Bellini Coronation of the Virgin altarpiece โ one of his masterpieces), and 7km of sandy Adriatic beach. The combination of opera, Renaissance art, beach, and the Marche's best fish restaurants makes Pesaro the most complete small city on the Adriatic. Marche →
