1km of golden sand curving around a horseshoe bay of turquoise water, backed by the 1,660m cliff of Monte Monaco. San Vito Lo Capo is, by any measurement, the most spectacular accessible beach in Sicily โ and a genuine rival to Sardinia's best. The water is shallow for 50 meters (perfect for families), the sand is fine and golden (not pebbles), and the town behind the beach is a grid of white houses with Arab-Norman architecture that serves the best cous cous in Italy (the Arab culinary influence runs 1,000 years deep here).
