Always free

St. Peter's Basilica: Michelangelo's Pietà, Bernini's baldachin. No ticket. Pantheon: Free timed reservation at pantheon.cultura.gov.it. All churches: San Luigi dei Francesi (3 Caravaggios), Santa Maria del Popolo (2 Caravaggios), Sant'Ignazio (ceiling illusion). Cimitero Monumentale (Milan): Open-air sculpture museum.

Free first Sunday of the month

ALL Italian state museums. This includes: Colosseum + Forum + Palatine, Galleria Borghese, Uffizi, Accademia (David), Brera, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Castel Sant'Angelo, Palazzo Barberini, Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, Capodimonte (Naples), and hundreds more across Italy. Arrive early — lines are long.

Free for under-18 EU citizens

All state museums are free for EU citizens under 18. Non-EU under-18: some museums are free, some charge reduced rates. Always bring ID/passport for age verification.

Reduced for EU citizens 18-25

Half-price at all state museums. €8 instead of €16 at the Colosseum. €10 instead of €20 at the Uffizi. Always ask and show ID. This saves hundreds across a multi-city trip.

💡 Plan one museum day around the first Sunday. Visit the most expensive museums (Borghese €15, Uffizi €20, Colosseum €16) on that free day. Use paid days for smaller, cheaper museums. Strategy saves €50+ easily.
