Italy has the richest flea market and antique fair culture in Europe. Every city has a weekly or monthly market. Rome's Porta Portese is every Sunday. Arezzo's antiquariato is the first Sunday. Milan's Naviglio Grande is the last Sunday. Planning your trip around a market day can be the difference between finding a โฌ10 vintage treasure and arriving at empty stalls. This calendar ensures you never miss a market.
SUNDAY: Porta Portese, Rome (every Sunday 6:30am-2pm โ Rome's legendary flea market, 1km of stalls). SATURDAY: Balon, Turin (every Saturday, Porta Palazzo โ flea market). DAILY: Mercato delle Pulci, Florence (Piazza dei Ciompi โ small permanent flea market, Monday-Saturday).
1st SUNDAY: Arezzo Antiquariato (+ Saturday before โ 500 dealers, Piazza Grande. Italy's most important antique fair). Mercatino dell'Antiquariato, Modena (Parco Novi Sad). Fiera dell'Antiquariato, Sarzana (Liguria โ 200 stalls in a medieval town). 2nd SUNDAY: Gran Balon, Turin (expanded version of Saturday Balon โ 300+ stalls, Italy's most serious northern antique market). Mercatino di Porta Portese Antiquariato, Rome (antique-focused section). 3rd WEEKEND: Lucca Antiquariato (inside medieval walls โ 200 dealers). Mercatino dell'Antiquariato, Parma (Piazza Ghiaia). March + October: Mercanteinfiera, Parma (Italy's largest INDOOR antique fair โ 1,000+ exhibitors, Fiera di Parma). September-October: Friuli Doc, Udine (food + antiques). Year-round tip: Small towns often have monthly mercatini on dates NOT listed in tourist guides. Ask locals: "C'รจ un mercatino questo weekend?" (Is there a market this weekend?). The best finds are at markets tourists don't know about.
