If you're embarking from Savona: arrive a day early. Sleep in town. See the fortress at sunset. Take the train to Finale or Noli. Then board your cruise knowing you've already had an Italian day that half the ship missed.

Train Savona→Finale Ligure (15min, €3). Walk uphill to Finalborgo (15min) — one of the most perfectly preserved medieval borghi in Liguria (complete walls, gates, a Spanish-era convent, olive oil culture). Walk the lanes, visit the Museo del Finale (Paleolithic-medieval archaeology, €5). Return to Finale Marina for a swim at the beach. Combine with Noli (bus 10min — the 5th maritime republic, medieval waterfront, Romanesque churches). Return to Savona by 4pm.
